More on 2014 Conference Logistics

The Ayres Hotel in Orange (200 N. The City Drive) is the conference hotel, next-door to the boutique Ayres Inn in Orange. Today I was given a tour of the new hotel, which opened less than two weeks ago, and found it most agreeable: it is an entirely new building with all-new furnishings and appointments, has that new hotel smell, bouncy carpet, spotless floors and walls, etc. Again, there are two room options: either a king-size bed, or two queen-size beds, between which there is a partial partition for a bit of added privacy. All the rooms are spacious with contemporary/modern conveniences. Because the Ayres Hotel Orange just opened, the folks at the Ayres would like to fill the rooms and so have put AMINTAPHIL in there at the same enviable rate of $109/per night plus taxes, and this includes a hot breakfast. The link to make a reservation is:

Plenty of rooms have been reserved for us, including for anyone who arrives on Wednesday and/or stays an additional night.

– When you go online to reserve the Super Shuttle, at some point you’ll put in your destination – Ayres Hotel or Inn in Orange – and the discount will be given automatically; so, no special code. The Super Shuttle has an arrangement with the Ayres going to/from Orange/SNA (the preferred airport, about 13 miles away and about $17.00) and also to/from Los Angeles/LAX (about 30 miles away – I don’t know this fare).

– The Ayres Hotel Orange is about 3 miles from Chapman University, and so there will be a charter bus to take everyone to/from campus at specific pick-up times, which will be given in the conference folders, which will be given to each guest when checking in and will also contain a map of the campus and old downtown Orange (one black away). Probably somewhere around 5:30-6pm Thursday the charter bus will depart the Ayres Hotel for campus and our opening reception. The welcome packet guests receive at the Ayres Hotel Orange will have further information on the area, including the Block at Orange, an outdoor shopping/dining center two blocks away from the Ayres.

– Please do go ahead and make your flight arrangements, and book your rooms and airport shuttle. I look forward to welcoming you all to Chapman University, and to seeing you at our opening reception on Thursday evening, October 9!

– Gordon
