Question about principal and comment papers

Someone new to AMINTAPHIL has asked if one has to write both a comment paper and a principal paper, and how this conference works. I thought my response might be useful to others, so here it is:

No, you are not expected to submit both a principal paper and a comment paper. We just want everyone who is there to be an active participant, so they can submit either or both. The comment paper option is a 2200 word limit. Sometimes people comment on one, sometimes on multiple principal papers. Sometimes comment papers are very short – even a page or two!

The program committee will divide the papers into panels with common themes, and then add the comment papers to those sessions. The sessions are moderated – loosely. It is sometimes hard to jump into the discussion because so many people want to speak, but we welcome you to do so, and try to get moderators to maximize participants.

There are now 23 principal papers, with one more likely to be posted this afternoon.
